I am interrupting my day of play to bring you a quickie tutorial for this randomly pieced pillow.
I apologize in advance for these dark photos but there are really two things to keep in mind when piecing in this manner.
THING #1: Cut your background fabric 2 inches larger than you want your finished pillow top because the edges will not always line up and the edges will need to be trimmed after piecing. For this 24" pillow top, I cut a 26" square of fabric.
Then randomly cut fabric and insert 2" strips. Do not cut the strips fabric on the diagonal.
Then cut the fabric again and insert another strip.
THING #2: If you want the first strip (green) to line up when you are inserting the second strip (red fabric) then you have to match up the points where you want the fabrics to intersect and pin. Do not try to line up the outside edges - these will remain uneven and will be trimmed at the end.
Next cut the fabric again and insert a third strip. Do this several more times. Trim the outside edges and you're done. I don't have time to finish this right now but you get the idea. Time to return to playing with my family.
I can fly planes with the boys...
lounge with the kitty....
pick cucumbers with ezra...
scooter down the road....
discuss important matters with david and abigail...
or catch a praying mantis!
Decisions, decisions! Happy Wednesday everyone!
Sounds like wonderful decisions to be making. I'd like to have been in that discussion with David and Abigail...she looks like she had lots to tell him! (so cute!) Thanks again for another great tutorial! We're back from vacation #1 and now I need to decide what to do...but instead, I'm reading blogs and catching up!
