I made this baby quilt for a very special, very pregnant teacher. This was so much fun to sew because I used a stack pack of 100 five inch squares - full of very cute 1940's reproduction children's fabrics. I just had to cut the white fabric squares and piece the squares into triangles that I assembled into this pinwheel pattern.
Here's a close-up of the adorable fabrics.
I used the squares remaining for the quilt back.
I almost never work with pre-cut fabric because I perfer to wash the sizing, dyes and chemicals out before I spend hours in very close proximity to the fabric. But here I have yet another concern - I haven't had a chance to wash this quilt yet and I don't know how the prints will shrink up in relation to the pre-washed white fabric and purple border. Has anyone had this come up - how did you handle it? I'll post and update with any information that may be helpful. In the meantime, here's yet another gratuitous shot - I took lots of photos because this quilt will be going to its new home very soon.
On the knitting front, I am taking a short break from my too large diminishing rib cardigan. I started a small sweater for abigail after reading kristyn's post - i'll get back to it once I figure out how I am going to decrease some of the sleeve stitches.
Thanks so much for reading and for letting me share my thoughts - you all mean so much to me.

what a wonderful gift for the new mommmy! I love the pattern and the colors. That big border is fabulous. Maybe you can recommend that she have it dry cleaned or that she was it in cold water and line dry it. I was thinking on doing a charm pack quilt too...but I hadn't thought about the ability not to pre-wash the fabric...hmmmm. Nonetheless, it is gorgeous...you amaze me with your speed and talent.

it's beautiful! i don't think that washing it should be an issue. i have made quilts with some prewashed fabrics and some not, and they come out just fine.
i love your pieced backing!
